Prof. Dr. Burkhard Scherer, born 1971 in Germany, is a Reader (=Associate Professor) in Religious Studies at Canterbury Christ Church University (U.K.) and a Professor of Indo-Tibetan Studies of the International Institute of Tibetan and Asian Studies (ITAS) in Spain.
A philologist (Classical and Indo-Tibetan) and historian of religions by education, Burkhard has published a dozen books on mythology and on the philosophy and history of Buddhism.
His methodologies include historical and literary criticism, philosophy, anthropology, sociology and post-structuralist (Queer) theory.
Burkhard is a long-standing Buddhist practitioner and lay instructor in the Tibetan Karma Kagyu tradition.
